First Day in Tonga

The lights of Tonga, our first glimpse.
After a 3 hour flight from Auckland, New Zealand, we had our first view of the Island of Tangatapu. It was about 9:30 in the evening when we landed.

We were welcomed by the missionaries at the airport. As I got to the bottom of the stairs getting off the plane, Brother Walker (who works at the airport) told us that all the cheering and waving were for us. I told Marlin I didn't think so. We had been concerned that there would not be anyone at the airport to pick us up.  We were wrong! What a greeting. Left to right, including those who are hiding in the background: Elder & Sister Va'enuku, Elder & Sister Murdoch, Elder & Sister Thomson, Sister Busby behind them, Elder Busby must be taking the picture, Sister Coombs, Elder & Sister Palmer, Elder (hiding) & Sister Hudson, Sister Evans, Elder & Sister Heiner, and Elder & Sister Oldroyd.

Food and other items that the missionaries put in our home for us.
There was food in refrigerator too. They were so kind, and we were so grateful!
We arrived late Saturday evening and nothing is open on Sunday,
(and most places close at noon on Saturday as well) so we would have had no food.

All the missionaries at the Halaliku Stake Conference
President and Sister Makai are 3rd & 4th from right on back row

First Sunday in Tonga. Halaliku Stake Conference
Elder Keith Walker of the Area was visiting Authority from Australia
We enjoyed an amazing Tongan Feast after with the Stake Leaders and Elder Walker
The Stake Center had an amazing view of the ocean.
We could see it out the open windows while sitting in the chapel.
